NOAA scientist Dr. Bill Sundawas elected as a AAAS Fellow in November2011, and is tobe inducted February 18, 2012. Dr. Sunda is being honored for his pioneering research ontrace metal biogeochemistry in the ocean.
His work has had a significant impact on ourunderstanding of the regulation of CO2-fixation and algal diversity in the ocean, and has helpedilluminate the important influence of marine microalgae on biogeochemical cycling of bioactiveelements and the impact of phytoplankton on world climate.
Each year, the AAAS Council elects members whose "efforts on behalf of the advancementof science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished." AAAS Fellowship isamong the most prestigious awards in American scientific circles.
Dr. Sunda will be recognized at the Fellows induction ceremony at the annual AAAS meeting inVancouver, British Columbia.
