This internship is located with the Marine Spatial Ecology Division of the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, NOAA which works to provide scientific products supporting marine spatial planning to support sustainable growth of the Blue Economy. This project would work with the communications lead for the Coastal and Marine Planning team to develop infographics related to spatial planning and suitability modeling to better inform the public and demystify “the science behind where”. The position would start with an overview of the spatial modeling process, then go into the visioning and planning for what infographics describing this process would look like, then lead into the design and finalizing of the infographics and any related products as there is interest and time.

The student should be capable of 1) visual storytelling for science communication, 2) graphic design in a program of their choosing (Adobe suite, Canva, etc), and 3) synthesizing written and oral information. Helpful but not required: GIS in ArcPro or QGiS.
