NCCOS HAB researcher, Rick Stumpf, met with Lake Erie resource managers and public water suppliers for a 2-day workshop where he shared background on the development and process for issuing NCCOS's HAB bulletin in Lake Erie. Lake Erie annually experiences blooms of toxic cyanobacteria that discolor the water, are a health hazard to bathers and pets, and force water treatment facilities to increase filtration levels. The August 7-8 workshop, "Dealing with Cyanobacteria, Algal Toxins, and Taste & Odor Compounds," was sponsored by Ohio EPA and Ohio State University'sStone Laboratory and took place at the lab's Gibraltar Island campus.
