Ava Ellett

Ellett is a molecular and microbiologist who researches pathogenic marine bacteria in relation to the aquaculture industry. Ellett currently leads laboratory research at COL supporting the NOAA Ecological Forecasting pathogens team by employing state of the art molecular techniques and investigating potential impacts to aquaculture.

Ellett has a M.S. in Environmental Molecular Science and Technology from the Marine-Estuarine Environmental Sciences program at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where she researched pathogenic Vibrio strain growth in live oysters. She earned her B.S. in Biology from Stevenson University. Prior to her federal role at NCCOS, Ellett worked as a contract biologist at COL providing laboratory support for the pathogens portfolio.
