Bryan Costa

As a marine ecologist, Bryan’s role is to identify and build regional partnerships for NCCOS in the West Coast and Pacific, focusing on collaborations with direct management applications. He also designs, leads and manages NCCOS proposals, research and ongoing projects in U.S. coastal waters, territories and freely associated states. This role also requires serving as a subject matter expert in geospatial analysis, seafloor mapping, statistical design and predictive modeling. He also works to advance NOS’s use of emerging technologies and techniques to better meet its evolving scientific and informational needs.

Bryan Costa graduated from Middlebury College with a joint degree in Biology and Environmental Studies and from the University of Maryland, College Park with an MPS in Geospatial Sciences.  He was a foreign expert in China and contractor to the U.S. Census Bureau before joining  NCCOS in 2005.  Since joining NCCOS, he has worked as a principal investigator and support scientist on a variety of applied projects, characterizing, monitoring and modeling coastal and marine ecosystems in the United States. His research interests include novel applications of state-of-the-art remote sensing and commercially available geospatial technologies.
